WAN throughput

What would I need to look at if I am experiencing our WAN throughput to be approx 1/5 of its actual throughput. I am running speed tests through the firewall and getting speeds roughly 9-17Mbps up and down, where it should be 50/50Mbps or close. I haven't done a bypass yet to confirm its definitely the firewall as its a production system but will be doing running that test tomorrow morning. I have toggled off Intrusion Prevention on the LAN to WAN rule, no change. I have made sure Dos spoofing and TDP flood are off. Not sure where else to look. Thanks

  • two tests in order to point to the Sophos unit:

    1. bandwidth test from outside the device entirely

    2. test with a computer plugged in directly to the device

Also, don't trust online speed tests as pure numbers.  I would suggest running a test between your own devices on either side of the Sophos to see how much bandwidth you are getting.

  • Hi,

try turning off IPS then selective enable each function until you find the one that is causing the slow down.

Also I find that speedof.me is very accurate both inside the XG and external. The only thing is it actually shows what is available eg is the link is in use for other traffic.

I have IPS TCP and IP flood disabled because they seem to cause most restrictions, then I am a home user.
