Wipe or unenrol and VPP license assignment reclaim

hello all,

when you wipe or unenrol a device which has VPP apps installed, are the VPP licenses used released and auto assigned back into the pool of available license's or do you have to manually reclaim the licence via apps, IOS apps, edit the app and deselect the license from the device or user?

  • Hi

I assume the VPP license are associated with the user account, then user account needs to be removed to release the VPP license. During the initial setup, users would have receive an email containing a link which they have to click on. If the procedure is done on an iOS device, they would had authenticated with their Apple ID. After the user signed in, the Apple ID will be associated to the VPP account.

Please refer Apple Volume Purchase Program together with Sophos Mobile Control for more details.

    Hope it helps.

  • Hello,

    thank you for your reply.

The VPP licences are assigned to the devices not the user account :-(

The devices are all supervised and have never ever had an apple ID associated with them, everything is setup either by apple configurator supervision for legacy devices or apple DEP enrolment, all apps are silently installed via SMC and VPP without user interaction or authentication.

    kind regards
