Updating to SMC 5

Hello,

what happens if I update the SMC Server to 5.0.5 before updating every client App? I Understand from the KB that these clients will not be able to synchronize with the server anymore, but are they able to when the App gets updated later?

I´m asking because I found this in the Update check log:

Database entries that will not be migrated:
NumberOfOpenTransitions=0
NumberOfBackupConfigs=0
NumberOfTrafficCountEntries=156
NumberOfOldAndroidApps=0
NumberOfOldIOSApps=38
NumberOfOldWP8Apps=0

Will the 38 ios devices be deleted from the server? (As it states that "database entries that will not be migrated")

  • HI Phillip,

    On iOS, you will be still able to manage the devices, as this uses the Apple MDM protocol. But the SMC app will no longer work and cannot sync. This might create a compliance violation and you cannot have the following funcitonality

    - Locate

    - Enterprise App Store

    - Messages

    - Support information

    Once the user does the upgrade later, it all falls back into normal

    On Android, the situation is different, you would not be able to manage the Android devices, until they get updated. Again, this can be done after the upgrade, but the devices are not reachable

  • If you can still manage the IOS devices without the client update through SMC 5, can you still push apps purchased through Enterprise Licensing to the IOS device, or does that also unavailable until the client is updated to SMC v5?

    If so presumably I would still be able to remove the policy that restricts access to App Store remotely and then ask end-users to connect to App Store and update apps manually?
