Questions about Device Properties

I'm wondering if there is any way to "edit" the properties listed on the Device properties tag for any specific phone.

I am specifically trying to enable location services. There is a "locateAllowed" property set to 0, but I can't set it to 1, which I assume would enable it. Clicking "Edit" doesn't let me change anything in that tab.

If there was another way to remotely enable location services, that would work just as well, but so far I haven't found one. We enabled compliance, but that won't turn the feature on, it just tells me who has it turned off. Helpful, but not good enough. I also have a Restriction Profile that has "Force GPS for location queries" checked, but it doesn't turn on location services. When I try to use the "Locate" in the actions for the phone, it doesn't even display it if location services is turned off.

Help! I think the answer is to modify the locateAllowed property, but I just can't see any way to do it.

  • Thanks, I appreciate the response. Is the same true for Android devices? We're probably 70-80% Android devices. It'd be a nice feature to have if I could modify those device properties remotely.

[EDIT] Also I've noticed that we can lock the location services setting, but unfortunately, it just locks it in whatever state it is currently in. We'll  just use compliance to hunt down the stragglers, and then lock them all into enabled location services once we get there.

  • Interesting, I did not notice the "lock location services" locks the state its in.

After reading this we are enabling location services and then aplying the profile to lock the setting.

    thanks for the info AndrewDorre.
