IOS prompting for login when updating the sophos app

I am setting up iphones with Sophos Mobile Control (Server version: 6.1.8 (rev 7159)).   We setup and install the phone using a company itunes id, then we logout of that account before giving it to the user so they can login with their own if needed.  Everything goes as expected until the user gets in the field and the Sophos app on the phone needs to update itself from the app store.

When the sophos app needs to update itself it prompts them to login using our company itunes account, even if they are logged into their own personal itunes account on the phone.  Do I have something setup wrong?  Is this expected behavior?

This happens on IOS version 9.3.2 through 10.0.1

Thanks

Charles

  • Hi Charles,

    sorry for the late reply.

When you install an application from the AppStore, it is always linked to the Apple ID which was enabled on the device when you installed the app.

Therefore, this is works as designed by Apple.

I think the best way to solve this kind of issue is either to let the user directly install the SMC app with their Apple ID or use the procedure described in this article to install apps without an Apple ID.  For the initial enrollment you could use the procedure described in this chapter of the documentation.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards
