SMC 6.1.4 Apple DEP - iPhone configuration fails

Hi,

I upgraded my SMC to 6.1.4 to use Apple DEP. The configuration is done and I see my Apple Devices in SMC. I have created a Profile and assigned it to the Device.
Now, If I start the iPhone, I receive an error (german):

"Die Konfiguration für Ihr iPhone konnte nicht geladen werden. Die Konfiguration ist nicht verfügbar."

(English)

"The configuration of the iPhone could not be loaded. The configuration is not available."

If I delete the Profile assignment and restart the iPhone, I can set up the device as normal (manually).

Whats wrong?

  • hi, i apologize as this inst an answer to your question but a question of my own, have you managed to get the DEP enrollment process to work with the "assign user to device" enabled in your Apple DEP profiles? i have the enrollment process working but when i enable "assign user to device" this i get the following message " the configuration for your iphone could not be downloaded from the "ORG" Invalid profile, if i disable this it works as expected/

also did you figure out you problem?

    thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

at first, please make sure your IP address displayed in the Apple DEP Portal is correct. This must be the correct WAN IP address resolved to your SMC FQDN.

The second issue was Problems with the certificate in SMC. Probably the SMC installer might not working correct. We removed all certificates in the SSL tab and applied them again (you can try that by discovering automaticaly). Please make sure that not the entire certificate chain is listed. You just need the blabla.Domain.tld or if you have a Wildcard certificate *.Domain.tld.

    I hope that helps.

  • HI,

    thank you for your reply.

yes the IP address is correct, i only receive an error when "assign user to device" is enabled, when this is disabled the process works as expected. im glad you resolved your problem :-)
