Phishing attack fooled iPad users: tools for better alerts, and any risk to iPad?

My grandparents fell for a phishing attack and supplied passwords and phone nos. on a website which their iPad did not warn (as my Mac does) has MalPhish-A.

  1. I'd like to give them better alerts to such risks, which full computers provide
  2. I'm wondering if there's any risk of malware on their iPad?

If so, what tools are there to give alerts, and scan their device?

    Hi Simon,

    on the iOS operating system the possibilities to implement a scanner or some kind of web surfing protection is really limited due to the way iOS is structured.

    There is currently no way to scan an iOS device for malware.

    To stay safe on an iOS device, it is recommended to only download applications from the official app store as Apple scans / verifies all applications which should be uploaded. Furthermore the "Fraudulent Website Warning" should be enabled for Safari.

    Besides that, there are no additional security mechanisms I know of which will help to increase the security on an iOS device.

    As I stated, the possibilities on iOS are very limited.

    But can you advise on the first part of my query:

    Sophos on my Mac throws up a Mal/Phish-A alert when I go to the site, but how can I guard iPads similarly?

    Hi Simon,

    unfortunately, I cannot help with that topic.
    A tablet or smartphone is not a full computer, therefore possibilities on iOS are very limited.

    As far as I know there is no possibility to create some kind of "Add-On" / "Extension" for the Safari browser to scan URLs whether they might be malicious.

    On a "full operating system" like Windows or Mac, you have more options.
