IOS App Updates

Hi, can anyone explain how I should handle updates to IOS apps I have installed through SMC via a link to the Apple App Store?

I turned off automatic updates when provisioning the iPads originally and in any case i have a lockdown policy in place to prevent users from installing apps which consequently hides the App Store icon from the device.

One of the free apps I deploy has recently been updated on the app store, although the link has remained the same.

If I deliver this app to a new iPad it receives the latest version, but how do I update the app on existing devices?

Do i need to remove the lockdown policy and redeploy the app to every device osr is there a cleverer way to acheive this

Thanks, Dave

  • Hi Dave,

sorry for the late reply. I recognized that there is no answer on this topic.

If you disable the App store on the deivce App updates also won't be possible unfortunately.
Therfore, the only possibility I see would be to create a task bundle which contains the following things:

    1. A profile which enables the app store
    2. Deploy the app which should be updated.
    3. Send a profile which disables the app store again

Right now I cannot think of another clever way to solve this.

    Best regards

    Stefan
