Resetting iOS Device Password Remotely

Good Evening,

We're planning on using Sophos Mobile with one of our clients and were looking at locking/resetting the passwords on remote devices.

Reviewing the following documents below:

https://docs.sophos.com/esg/smc/8-0/ssp/en-us/webhelp/esg/Sophos-Mobile-SSP/tasks/SSPResetDevicePW.html

https://docs.sophos.com/central/SelfService/help/en-us/esg/Sophos-Mobile-SSP/tasks/SSPResetMobileEncPassword.html

it appears that we can reset the passwords of devices from the Self-Service Portal but it will only remove the password when done from the management portal? Is this correct?

Thank You

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for reaching out to the Sophos Community Forum.

The second link you shared is specific to Sophos Containers which will behave differently. The Reset device password section may be more relevant.
For iPhones and iPads, the password is removed and the device is unlocked.

Container management will be depreciated in the coming months, I'd suggest using Apple User Enrollment for iOS devices, or the Work Profile on Android.
