[Sophos Notification] Enterprise Console error with Microsoft KB4537820 on Server 2008R2 and Windows 7

Hi everyone,

Sophos Enterprise Console on Windows 2008R2 and Windows 7 with Microsoft KB4537820 installed may encounter an error when opening SEC. This only impacts the Enterprise Console, and does not impact the management service, the database, or antivirus.

  • [Update] Alternate workaround:

Install a remote Enterprise Console on a system that is not running Server 2008R2 or Windows 7, and point it to the server that is failing to run the GUI. It will allow for management of your environment, but keep the KB installed.

  • [Update] Feb 27:

We have determined the cause of this issue. The icon files for SophosMobileControl return as corrupt when the updated Microsoft KBs are applied. We have confirmed why they appear as corrupt, and are working on how to correct impacted installations.

  • [Update] 5th March 2020:

Sophos has released a fix for this issue which is now available to customers.  Affected customers should update to or reinstall Sophos Enterprise Console 5.5.2.  Customers who are unable to do this can access further resolution options via article 135238
