Red X --- not updating

I installed v.9 of Sophos Endpoint Security onto an XP machine and rebooted. A red X appears over the shield icon and I find I am not getting updates as required. Is there a known fix? A removal and re-installation just produced the same result.

    two points for mentioning OS and Sophos version and falf a bonus point for remove/reinstall. Unfortunately based on this information the most likely fix is: specify the correct update location and/or credentials :smileywink:

    Seriously - where did you install it from, did it ask for user/password during install and most important: what's in the autoupdate log?
