Endpoint Security and Control requests window focus on background update

I would like to report a weird behavior of Endpoint Security and Control: it seems to me that it requests window focus when it's performing a background update such that my working program (i.e. MS Word) looses the focus but does not get activated/focused again. This behavior is very annoying, e.g. when you type in a letter and suddenly the program is not responding to the keystrokes...

Does anyone can confirm this behavior? Than it would probably be a bug which should be fixed! :-)

My environment ist MS Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, Version 10.3; and I have two update download sites configured (one with proxy and one without).

Regards, Martin

  • Hello Martin,

background is indeed background. There should be nothing which could steal the focus (not even the occasional On-access scanning disabled balloon during an update will grab the focus) although there is an interaction with Explorer. Furthermore - tens of thousands endpoints with these OS and Endpoint versions frequently check for updates and actually update several times a day. Unlikely that nobody has noticed yet.

When you encounter this situation you can easily examine the Last checked time by hovering over the Sophos icon. The time of the last actual update is under Anti-Virus and Hips/Software in the GUI's View product information window. Thus you should be able to determine whether it's related to an update, an update check or not.
