Enterprise Console 5.1 - 32 bit Server to 64 bit Server Migration Issue - Registry Key Edit

I am in the process of migrating Enterprise Console 5.1 from a 32 bit server to a 64 bit server. I am at step 8 in the guide and am asked to edit the Certification Manager Registry key exported earlier:

  • 32-bit OS: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sophos\Certification Manager
  • 64-bit OS: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432node\Sophos\Certification Manager

I can find and replace the first value just fine:

  • Select Edit | Replace
  • Complete the fields:
  • Find: \SOFTWARE\Sophos\
  • Replace: \SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sophos\
  • Click Replace all

However I do not see the second vale in the hive at all:

  • Using the same procedure also replace the strings below:
  • Find: C:\\Program Files\\Sophos\\Enterprise Console\\SUMInstaller and in
  • Replace: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Sophos\\Enterprise Console\\SUMInstaller
  • Click Replace all

I do not want to move forward with the migration process and have it fail so I am stuck at this point.

Can anyone provide insight as to why the registry key does not contain the C:\\Program Files\\Sophos\\Enterprise Console\\SUMInstaller value? Can you also provide guiidance in how best to move forward?

Any assistance with this process is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

  • Hello Tom,

in step 8 you import just the CertificationManager .reg. There are other .reg files in the backup (please note that Appendix B says: you will need to open any exported registry files) which are imported in step 11 and one of them, ManagementTools.reg, contains a path (it is not the path mentioned in the docs though but instead C:\\Program Files\\Sophos\\Update Manager - which, BTW, up to Server 2003 might have a localized name for %ProgramFiles% - apparently no one noticed or complained :smileyhappy:). Afterwards you have to check and potentially edit some of the restored values. Please also note that the key path in ManagementServer.reg should stay the same (without the Wow6432Node) - but as the file is otherwise empty it has no consequences if you do other than creating this key (the correct one has been created by the installer, there are no values to import from the previous installation).
