Hi,
This probably doesn't come up too often, but thought I'd ask!
I'm running spotify on a few different PCs, all running Windows 7 SP1 (Home Premium and Enterprise). They're all 64-bit, and running Sophos endpoint 10.2.
I've found lately that Sophos and Spotify don't get along too well. Launching Spotify results in a pause before the application appears, and then the application hanging for about 10 seconds once launched. It seems the Spotify app creates a few files at launch. Having excluded the app data Roaming folder Spotify uses, it runs perfectly fine.
I'm not too keen on excluding this folder long term, as it contains the spotify.exe and other random program files. I don't know if Sophos are better able to isolate the issue. Spotify have had me log in with different accounts and try cleaning out Spotify and reinstalling it, but it makes no difference. Sophos is definitely the culprit here (as far as I can tell), so I'm wondering if somebody can offer pointers on how to either exclude the least amount, or if Sophos can take a little look and figure out why it's doing it.
In my mind, Sophos shouldn't slow down third-party apps, or rather not such that it's noticeable, which this is doing. The hang will on occasion cause windows to pop up a 'this application has hung' box if you go clicking on things whilst Sophos and Spotify are fighting over files.
As I say, at the moment I've excluded the %appdata%\Spotify folder, but this could be something else going on within Sophos. Anything that helps improve performance is surely a good thing!
