SUM Not Updating (again) - Simple Monitoring please?

Is there anyway to send the 8040401 or whatever Error message lobbed into the Sophos Console Log into the Windows Event logs?

Please

The number of unnoticed SUM download outages are causing quite a bit of displeasure with the Sophos End Point Product and SEC suite.

All we need is a simple plain, Windows Event log message which can notify us when anything is going on with SUM.

Surely its already in there somewhere?

I'll log a ticket tomorrow but its seemed so obvious, but I can't find a hint of it in the Users Manual anywhere.

Screen scraping? Can we pull the html report from a directory and parse the CSS and html to get at the information with a Windows Task CMD script?

  • Hi jwillis

Could you provide what version of OS the server is, Version of SQL and what verison of the console you have running please.

A possible work around is using the Reporting interface, which would connect to the DB. You will then have access to that information.

However you might only have that informaiton on a scheduled bases not on a real time bases unless you try interface into a dashboard with a constant feed into the DB.

A script may connect to the DB and retrieve the informaiton for you. (But this is dependant on Version)

Sophos support will probably be the best people to assist.

One a side note - It is a nice to have but it could become annoying.

In South Africa our lines go down quite often and connections to branches sometimes have speeds of 32 - 256K.

Even at night the time outs are crazy.

Getting notifications each time may provoke the need to create a rule in your mail to send them into a deep dark folder you never look at.

If you arent like that and action on all of them - Kudo's!

Although i doubt the above will help, perhaps it sparks an idea for someone else to help you.

    :)
