Help with Sophos- On-access Scanning & Web Control: Disabled

Hi,

Last night my Firefox crashed for an unknown reason and this morning I performed a full scan with Sophos and detected no viruses.  Firefox would no longer open when I tried to restore the previous session but then when I asked it to start a new session, it reset itself (completely losing my profile/settings in the process) and thereafter Sophos has been disabled. 

Now, I get the following problems with Sophos:

1. On Access scanning: disabled

2. Anti-virus and HIPS software: none

3. Web control status: disabled

4. Something that was in the Quarantine has dissapeared

Updating seems to still be performing.  Restarting the computer several times has not helped at all.   There are a few files in the Sophos Anti Virus folder that appear to be updated around when this problem with Firefox struck last night & around when the second batch of problems occcured today.    Any advice for troubleshooting this will be deeply appreciated.  In the meantime, I will try a system restore.
