Adding a new Install of Sophos to Domain with Existing Installation in place

Hi all,

We have sophos enterprise console 5.0 installed on our domain which was installed to the main domain controller. For obvious reasons we would like this moved off the main dc to another server.

Ideally I would like to do a fresh install and then roll out sophos again to all client machines we have about 100 clients.

I have read up on moving sophos from 1 server to another migrating the database, files and registry keys however the current installation was setup poorly no service accounts just tied to normal existing domain accounts and would like to just start a fresh copy and roll out.

Ideally I would like to leave the current installation in place to update the clients until I have the new server up and runnning and then do the clients bit by bit.

Can I have 2 enterprise consoles online at the same time and what happens during the install as on the domain sophos has created a number of groups and accounts will it remove these or duplicate/recreate them and stop the current installation from working.

Has anyone had any experience with this I am trying to work out if we can do this gradually or if we have to remove the old one first then create the new one downtime is not really an option with the main dc as it does a number of other jobs besides the stardard dc services and we operate pretty much 24/7.

Thanks,

Lee

  • Hi Christian,

By AD sync do you mean using active directory accounts to do the updating etc..

There are a number of active directory groups listed below which have been created I guess by the install first time around I guess I am concerned it will mess with these during the install.

There also appear to be a number of duplicates created already like sophos user and sophos user[]CNF:9e576cf9- same for sophos power user, sophos on access sophos administrator etc. it looks like maybe someone may have tried this already but made a mess as I said really want to get a clean install going with correct accounts.

    Cheers,
