Sophos 5.1 has 3 database?

Can someone explain why sophos 5.1 has 3? SOPHOS51, SOPHOSPATCH51, SOPHOSENC51.

If you have a link, can you post it so I can read it. Thanks!

  • Hi,

I wouldn't recommend dropping/deleting databases from the current versions set.

    • The 'Core' database is the main database used to store the majority of the data you see in SEC.
    • The SophosPatch database appeared from SEC 5.0 onwards when patch was first added to SEC. It is used by the patch compoennt only and contains the patch definitions, info on the patches and computer information with respect to patch.
    • The 'Encryption' database appeared in SEC 5.1 when encryption was added.  The database is created regardless of if you choose Encryption during the management server install to make it easier to add should you purchase encryption in the future by re-running the installer.

As for upgrades and old databases; once you have upgraded you can drop (maybe you wish to backup first) the previous versions databases, once you're happy that the upgrade has gone to plan.

So if you're running SEC 4.7 and upgrade to SEC 5.1 for example, you can drop SOPHOS47 once upgraded to SEC 5.1 and you're happy all the data was migrated from SOPHOS47 to SOPHOS51 and everying is working.

    The following KBAs are related:
