Best Practice for Update when NO Windows Servers

Hi,

I've been going round this so long I've confused myself, hope someone can help me clear my head :smileyhappy:

We have Windows XP / 7 workstations and Linux servers.

Previously we had Enterprise Console running on an old XP machine so it would update a share on the server from which all the workstations installed / updated. However the new console only runs on Windows Server OS's ( which we dont run ).

I cant see how to create and keep updated a CID for Windows machines on a Linux server useing only Linux software. I have Sophos installed ok on the server but it only wants to download the Linux versions when it updates.

Any ideas or pointers

Many thanks

  • HI,

Could a virtual machine play host to the SEC server?  VMware? Even Virtualbox http://www.virtualbox.org/

Is it a licence problem or number of machines available to you?

You could install a virtual Windows machine (Windows 7 for example if you don't have a server OS) on the Linux machine and have it update CIDs on either the virtual or Linux host?

    Regards,
