central console without AD

HI there,

I would like to know if it is possible to protect windows computers and use the central console to manage alerts and policies without using Active directory.

    Yes, SEC will work in a workgroup environment.  In order to be able to deploy from SEC however you would need to enter an account that can log onto the SEC managment server.  So if you have a common admin account which is known to the SEC server and client you will be fine.  

    Otherwise for other machines you can always manually bootstrap them or use some tool to run the setup.exe with the necessary command line switches. Once deployed you will have management over the machine in terms of Sophos.
