Endpoint 10.0.0 Being Retired Soon??

I just checked on my SUM and saw this message.  Is there any more information on this?  When will it be retired?  If clients are left alone, will they be updated to 10.0.1. or 10.0.2?  Thanks in advance,

Jason

  • I'd be suprised being that I went to the "launch" for 10 last week!

I had a mail from our reseller saying 9.5 support is ending soon and that 9.5 clients will be automatically updated to 9.7 if left..

  • Hello Jason,

the semantics of numbering have changed and are now quite strictly applied. There's still the basic detection data (VDL) update each month. Minor release numbers (10.0.x) indicate small but nevertheless significant changes. For example, LSP issues with 10.0.0 were addressed in 10.0.1.
The warning is not really new, in a certain respect the wording has changed. You could and still can subscribe to a fixed version and usually can't select the minor release. After several months you were told that updates will no longer available (or words to this effect). Then either SEC automatically updated the fixed release or the CID was essentially stale if you decided to ignore the message.
Retirement makes it much clearer that 10.0.0 is not considered current - neither in terms of support nor in terms of protection. These days 10.0.2 is out and SEC 5.1 is in the works (the Beta SAV is 10.0.4, dunno what it will be for the final release).

  • Hello Jason,

just dragging it to the rich text editor window works for me (up to a certain size). The other option is to upload it to a public site and include the link

  • I've already upgraded my clients to 10.0.2 (I use static versions), so this isn't really a big issue. I was just surprised to see a pretty recent version being retired so soon.
