Download of RMSNT Failed from server...

I'm a new user to Sophos and am trying to get it working, however I'm having issues with it updating.  The error message I'm getting is as follows (note main IP has been renamed to X.X.X.X):

Code 0000006b:  Download of RMSNT failed from server http://X.X.X.X/CIDs/S014/SAVSCFXP/

ALC.log shows:

After doing some google searches I found a site that advised changin a setting for the Indexing service (basically adding an exclusion to not look at the cache folder under the Sophos main directory).  I add this in, but still receive the above errors.  I'm not sure where next to look to resolve this problem.  Anyone have any ideas for me?  Thanks in advance!

  • Hello NeedSophort,

(BTW: Sophort is homophonic to the German sofort meaning: immediately)

what state are the Sophos components in? AutoUpdate is obviously installed, what with SAVXP and RMSNT? As you didn't say that the installation failed I assume that they are. How did you perform the initial install?

Wild guess - I might be totally wrong: Any chance you added mrinit.conf to the RMS subdirectory in the CID? Looks like it's trying to download just this and fails. I don't have a test CID available so I can't conduct any experiments to verify my assumption.

    What you could do:

Empty the (rms) cache folder, AutoUpdate should then re-download all the RMS files. I expect that this will also result in an error and maybe the log contains a hint on what's failing.

Also - as you are using a webserver - try to locate the download request in the server's logs and check for errors.

Try to download mrinit.conf (if it is really there) from http://X.X.X.X/CIDs/S014/SAVSCFXP/rms/ using a browser.

Please come back with what you've found.
