Enterprise Console 4.7 connecting to Mgmt Server 4.5

we have a distributed primary/child server infrastructure currently running EC 4.5

I have implemented EC 4.7 on a new server, installed Enterprise Console only and pointed it to the Primary 4.5 Management Server.

After installation, on starting EC 4.7 I'm getting an error message

unable to log in as the specified user

My basic question is can a EC 4.7 connect successfully to a 4.5 Mgmt Server? do I need a Sophos 4.7 db on the Mgmt Server?
