sophos_autoupdate1.dir

I know the contents of this directory is safe to delete but it keeps filling up rather quickly,

Can I stop this? how can I move it to another disk?

also, Some of the files can't be deleted (seen on anoumber of win2k3 servers) these appear to be shortcuts.

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\sophos_autoupdate1.dir\1266387112\program files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Sophos Anti-Virus (de) (internet shortcut)

Even if I try to reset the file permissions it refuses (Access Denied)

Any advice?

  • Unless an install/upgrade is in progress it contains some 3MB and no subdirectories - (simplified statement follows:) everything else should be temporary and be cleaned up by the installer when the install finishes.

On which machines does this occur - some servers, all servers, workstations as well?
