Sophos Enterprise 3.1 to 4.0 upgrade!!

I have managed to get the update of MSDE to version 8.00.2039.

When I try to install Sophos Enterprise 4.0 the install fails, and rolls back, then screws up the whole installation of Enterprise and doesn’’’’t even function. It fails on the database part of the SQL express 2005 install.

We have on the server Backup Exec, and an ERP software and these both run SQL services using SQL Server 2005 express.

When I try the 4.0 install again I select custom and ignore the database install option. The installation completes successfully. When I open enterprise console it starts connecting to the SQL server, but comes up with a message after some time saying the management service is not running and it cannot connect. Even though the SOPHOS instance of SQL is running.

Any Ideas or similar experiences on this one?

    enterprise console ... cannot connect. Even though the SOPHOS instance of SQL is running.

    If you haven't already done so you should backup your existing SOPHOS3 database (unless you want to start from scratch).

    Your Sophos instance is MSDE or Express 2005? See this Microsoft article to identify the version. Which errors did you get during the attempted upgrade? The SEC installer did not create the SOPHOS4 database and it's no surprise that the console can't successfully connect.

    So your SEC3.1 did not work after the rollback and is no longer available?

    I'd backup the SOPHOS3 database, drop the MSDE instance and install the SOPHOS instance on SQL 2005 Express (see How to install the SOPHOS4 database manually on how to proceed). Jak's better than I with all this database stuff (I'm just doing it the recommended way and never had any problems :smileywink: :smileyvery-happy:) and he can probably give you a more detailed description.
