Device Control - By User?

Hi,

I'm not sure if I can do this in the current version of sophos, but it would be nice if it was possible to allow certain users access to USB devices, without them needing to be authorised by us first.

For example, we have all USB devices blocked off to prevent staff from taking unencrypted data off site, but at the time we occasionally have visitors in who use the same computers with a guest account that we issue to display presentations to staff/students. Currently we either have to allow full USB access on that machine, or have the key authorised on the day which can cause delays.

Sophos already records the user account on the device control log, so I'm wondering if this would ever be possible.

I am aware that Sophos also sell safeguard, so i completely understand if this won't ever be in Endpoint security

Thanks

  • It's not possible now - but on the "wish list".

Can't say anything about Sophos' plans but I guess it will take some time and then I expect it to be based on membership in the Sophos groups (everything else probably requires a major rewrite). But that's my personal assessment.

As for SafeGuard (another assumption) we'll likely see an integration (along with the management features) rather sooner than later.
