Hello all,
just stumbled over How to remove Sophos Endpoint Security and Control from client computers. So it has been recently updated in response to feedback, graphics have been added - but what caught my eye was:
2 The order of removal is important to allow dependent components to be removed first without error. Importantly the Sophos AutoUpdate component occurs at the end to preserve the local Cache folder of installers. These installers may be required to resolve corrupt installations of other components.
and the item to which this footnote applies:
5. Using the list below remove the Sophos components installed on your computer in the order shown2. If you cannot find one or more components listed below it may not be installed and you can move on to the next item.
- Sophos Patch Agent
- Sophos Compliance Agent (NAC)
- Sophos Client Firewall (SCF)
- Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV)
- Sophos Remote Management System (RMS)
- Sophos AutoUpdate (SAU)
- Sophos SafeGuard components
Now didn't think I had it wrong all the time, so I checked How to uninstall Sophos Endpoint Security & Control from the command line or with a batch file - same order. What the ...?!? Finally Sophos Small Business Solutions: how to uninstall Sophos security software put my mind at ease - here it is (maybe was when you read this), the well known order with AutoUpdate first :smileyhappy:
You should now stop the AutoUpdate service instead - should achieve the same. But don't fiddle with the GUI afterwards, this might restart the service.
