Exclude external hard drive

Hello forum,

Recently I am struggling with ejecting an external hard drive safely. I suspect Sophos of using it. So, could someone tell me how I could exclude the external hard drive from being scanned by Sophos Protection if it's even possible?

I tried to configure it via Configure -> Anti-virus -> On-access scanning and then the Exclusions tab but that's all abracadabra for me.

I am using Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Sophos Security and Control version 10.3.

Thanks,

Salamander

  • Hello Salamander,

    I suspect Sophos

Sophos doesn't use a drive when it's not used - in other words, the On-Access scanner intercepts file accesses by some other application/program so there must be another program which tries to use or is using the drive. Even a scheduled or on-demand scan shouldn't block the eject - but if, you should see in the GUI (assuming you have administrative rights which you need to set an exclusion) that a scan is running.

You can search for handles (i.e. which process is accessing a resource on the drive) with Process Explorer
