Sophos Portable - No password prompt

Hi,

I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the way encryption works on USB devices.

The problem I'm having is with a particular person in our business who isn't being prompted for a passphrase at the point when the usb device is connected.

Sophos Portable opens up and he can browse through all of the files with no problems. He can then drag/drop files onto the device which will then wait for him to manually encrypt the files. Apparently in the past when the usb device was connected to the computer and sgportable was opened the passphrase prompt came up straight away. Then whenever a file was moved onto the device it was encrypred immediatley.

In short, is there anyway to encrypt files automatcially as they are moved over to the usb device? Any ideas why the prompt for the passphrase isn't coming up as soon as the usb device is inserted?

  • Hi,

I would suggest to check if the user is working on a client where the SafeGuard Data Exchange module is installed and if the encryption policy for the removable media covers the user?

If yes for both, you might want to check if the "user is allowed to decide about encryption" (part of the encryption policy) and choose to not encrypt the device incl. the "remember setting" checkbox.

To revert this change, attach the USB media, go to "This PC" and right click the device, select "Re-activate Encryption".
