Installing Sophos Endpoint on Windows Server 2012r2 Core

From what I found Sophos Endpoint is supported on Windows Server 2012r2 Core.  Does anyone know how to install it, or where to even download it from?  I have been able to only find very little information on this topic.  Are others not running antivirus on their core servers?

  • Hi,

    https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/118621.aspx has the text:

Note: for all Server Core versions (2008/2012 both R2 and non-R2) standalone SAV is not supported, you must install a managed SAV installation.

    Setup switches - https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/12570.aspx

So if you have an on-premise installation of SEC and distribution points, you could run setup.exe from there with the switches detailed in the above article.  You would then manage the config via SEC.

    Hope it helps.

  • Hi Jak,

Thanks for the pointers.  I started the install via the cmd line.  How do I now know that the install completed successfully?  If I browse the C drive I can now see a Sophos folder.  If I go to the enterprise console, The server is grayed out and not reporting in.  Is there somewhere I can go to check to see what went wrong?  Thanks

  • Hi,

Did the RMS package install OK? The Remote Management System (RMS) component is responsible for the reporting and management.

If you look in the distribution point, there is a file in the root called mrinit.conf.  This is the file that is copied to the client at install time to configure where the Sophos Message Router service should point to.

So the server being managed will need to be able to connect to at least one of the ParentAddress values (it tries each in order) in that file on ports 8192 and 8194 TCP.

This might be the first check.

    Regards.
