Sophos CloseDisc Utility.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the Sophos CloseDisc utility or what package it actually comes with?

    I think you need to double check this.  I have on my work system a utility named "Sophos CloseDisc Utility", executable name closedisc.exe.  The Windows properties details page shows the following:

    File Description       Close disc tool

    Type                           Application

    File version              1.0.0.0

    Product name         Close disc tool

    Product version       1.0.0.0

    Copyright                 Copyright (c) 1996 - 2012 Sophos Group....

    Size                           13.0 KB

    Date modified         8/22/2012 1:58 PM

    Language                English (United States)

    Original filename   CloaseDisc.exe

    Since it was installed by our IT department I have no idea where it came from or which product is is a part of but I know that it exists.

    Hello Bill,

    in which folder does it reside?

    From the data I conjecture

    • it predates XP and hasn't been changed since then except for the metadata
    • it doesn't originate from Sophos but has been acquired somehow and subsequently been "re-branded" (deducing from the use of Sophos Group)
    • the name suggests a connection with CD/DVD

    Thus it could (have) be(en) a piece of SafeGuard RemovableMedia/Data Exchange - but this is just a wild guess :smileyhappy:.

    QC may be on the right track [...] I don't believe we have ever been known as Sophos Group

    The path to the executable is "c:\program files (x86)\sophos\closedisc\closedisc.exe".  We started using this after our migration to Windows 7 since the builtin burn utility does not finalize media.  In the Win7 Programs and Features window the publisher is listed as Sophos Plc as opposed to Sophos Ltd. or Sophos Limited as displayed by the other Sophos products.
