Windows 8

Found already two clients (SAV 10.0.1 VDL4.74G) in SEC which are running on Windows 8 (which is not yet supported). Application Control and Behaviour Monitoring are off on both, Device Control is enabled on one of them. So far no problems have been reported (which of course doesn't prove anything though).

Thought I'd let you know

  • Is this the public build of Windows 8 that was recently released?

I can't believe Windows 8 is already here, we just finished moving everyone to Windows 7 :smileysad:

    Any news on the firewall?

    Thanks for the heads up

  • Yup, AFAIK in both instances. Haven't seen it, no details - apart from the fact that the SAV package ("proprietary" build with 7-zip and a script running setup.exe with the appropriate switches) installed apparently without problems. If you have specific questions you can always PM me - but that's no promise I can give an answer :D

  • Hey QC,

Was wondering if you had pushed these clients out from your SEC?

Or did you manually install the Sophos clients on these devicse?

I setup a virtual machine running Windows 8, but when I tried to push the Sophos client to it from the SEC

it gives me an error saying that the subscription I have doesn't support the OS the client is destined for.

Btw, Windows 8 joins a Samba/LDAP domain with the registry edits needed in Windows 7.

    Cheers

  • Hello toddh,

as I've said, install was done using a package. Gave Protect computers a try and got the message you describe - which is the expected behaviour (as it only allows install on supported platforms). As you can see both the client software and management are already "Windows 8 aware" in order to permit testing.

And no - I'm not actively testing, I've just seen that there are a few installs (5 in all and only one used regularly) on Windows 8.

  • Hey QC,

    Sorry for the bother.

I didn't read your post properly.

I now see that you covered how you installed - My apologies.

I will give it an attempt. I am just curious to see how it runs.

Windows 8 feels like a really different experience.

    Cheers
