Updating Problem

Hello,

All of a sudden one of my Windows Server 2008 R2 server has decided to stop working with Sophos.

ERROR:   Could not find a source for updated packages

The path, permissions and everything else is correct as over 200 other computers and all the other servers are updating fine without any issues. Have tried to uninstall, restart and reinstall from the console which pushes out and installs fine just coming onto the issue of the auto updating is failing. Nothing has changed from last week on the settings for Sophos, just don't understand why it isnt working.

This server does have the PureMessage installed due to this server is the email server. Puremessage is the latest version from Sophos and recently started getting alot of spam not being blocked by PureMessage which is generating this error in the event viewer:    Spam detection data is too old. Please update spam detection data.        with Event ID 106.

I think it related to the Sophos AntiVirus not working properly, but not 100% sure.

Any help with this?

Thanks.

  • Hello Matt0283,

tried to uninstall, restart and reinstall ...

my preferred approach is to determine the (intermediate) error and try to find out the reason first :smileywink:. But anyway we can rule out a locked cache now.

Endpoint (AV) is usually updated from the on-premise Primary location, spam rules directly from Sophos which is configured as Secondary. Are you sure that it's both Endpoint and spam data updates failing? Please check the ALUpdate log (in %ProgramData%\Sophos\AutoUpdate\logs\) which should have more specific messages regarding the error.
