General problems regarding Endpoint Security and Control

Dear all,

I'm experiencing a few problems with Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.

Every computer in our domain receives the following message:

"Sophos Endpoint Security and Control has failed to download updates".

Sophos isn't installed at our server, but at my workstation.

My old colleague has setup the Sophos installation.

The domain account of my old colleague had all the permissions needed for Sophos.

I'm also not able to open the Enterprise Console with my own domain account, I receive the message:

Could not connect to the Management server.

The may be due to one of the following:

- local network problems

- Management service has stopped on the server

- your database service has stopped

- A firewall is blocking the connection

- The management service is not installed on the server

Either attempt to reconnect or close the application. Attempting to reconnect may take a few minutes.

Reconnect doesn't work.

I've been investigating the eventviewer and I found a few error messages like:

Event 8004, Sophos Management Service.

Initialization failed.

Step: Create a database connection

Error: std::runtime_error

Data: createAccessToken: LogonUser failed

According to an older thread @ SophosTalk they suggested to run the Setup.exe file within sec_521\ServerInstaller

But during the installation I don't know what to do at the Database Details section, I've tried my own account, account of my old colleague but i receive the following error message:

Invalid SQL Server Instance

The logged on user cannot connect to SQL Server instance SOPHOS.

Could someone please help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Johnny Z.

  • Hello,

You may wish to check that the account that the Sophos Management Host service is running as (on the management server) is not locked out?

This would explain the inability for the Sophos Management Service to start (not being able to open SEC is a symptom of this) and you get the login error.

This wouldn't affect the clients ability to update, unless the same user account was used for both the DB account and SUM account.  Details here:

    http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/113954.aspx

Note: the "DB" account, is made a member of the group "Sophos DB Admins" in order to gain required access to the database.

    Regards,

    Jak
