update/upgrade savscan?

Hi - I am quite confused as to how/whether savscan can be updated.

So our installation is using file sav-linux-9-i386 (i downloaded this today and in july and the size is identical so I assume this download does not change that often?)

We only use savscan - when i look at what version we have it says

Product version : 5.00.0
Engine version : 3.51.0
Virus data version : 5.00
User interface version : 2.03.051
Platform : Linux/AMD64
Released : 09 April 2014
Total viruses (with IDEs) : 6798554

I have updated the IDE's but the webpage we get the IDE's from says:

"Please note: We do not provide IDEs for versions of Sophos Anti-Virus that are more than three months old."

and only have IDE's for version 5.01,5.02,5.03

My question is how do I upgrade this Sophos antivirus - savscan ??

Hello PaulMuscroft999,
indeed the package is from April. The current version is still 9.6.1 but with Virus data 5.05.
During installation you should have been prompted for the type of auto-update you require - if you have downloaded this installer package then it's likely Sophos (meaning the AutoUpdate component checks the Sophos network for updates and downloads and installs them automatically - this of course also applies to the IDEs).
Is your machine off-net?

Hi Christian - yes this machine is off the net so we cannot do the auto-update. What we have done in the past is to go to:
www.sophos.com/downloads/ide
and then copy the lastest and then extract to directory /usr/local/sav

Hello Paul,
dunno why the installer package isn't updated (maybe Douglas Leeder can tell) - and the IDE are somewhat "nehind" as well.
Anyway, you'd have to update the Virus data. Is this your only Linux installation? Or do you have also SEC (on Windows)?

Thanks Christian, It is one of only two that have an anti-virus running on them. I'll just sit tight and wait for the installer package to be updated.

Hello Paul,
if the second one is online and updating you could perhaps use it to build a current package (this is described in chapter 4.2 of the startup guide).

On this same line - is there some way to tell if savscan has indeed updated successfully from the Sophos site? Is that information in a log file somewhere?
