error: cannot proceed without the required header file

I'm installing sophos for linux and get this error:

checking for kernel headers layout... /lib/modules/2.6.32-279.14.1.el6.openlogic.x86_64/build/include
checking for linux/version.h... configure: error: cannot proceed without the required header file

I updated kernel-devel and kernel-headers and checked that version.h exists. version.h exists at

/usr/src/kernels/2.6.32-431.17.1.el6.x86_64/include/linux which is linked from /lib/modules/2.6.32-279.14.1.el6.openlogic.x86_64/build

Any ideas?
