Setting up SUM shares

Greetings,

Recently we have tried setting up several shares on our SUM to free up some of the network bandwidth at various sites. We have offloaded the SAVSCFXP folder from SophosUpdate to the local servers, and pointed these shares back to the main Sophos server to receive updates.

Everything seemed to have been going smoothly, the SUM details showed that our software subscriptions status was successfully updating these sites. Unfortunately though, when adding these shares, we also got a consistent influx of out of date computers marked as 'unknown.'

I have been read various threads and maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to pinpoint what is actually causing this issue. Our SUM is reporting no errors, our last message times are recent, and the remote share packages are all identical versions. Should I set up multiple SUMs to solve this problem? Any documention would be appreciated. Any other ides?

  • Hello JCL,

so you are writing to several remote shares from your SUM., aren't you? Please see the answers by Jak (here and here) and the threads they belong to for details about this behaviour and possible solutions. Generally you should consider setting up additional SUMs instead of writing to several remote shares from one SUM.
