What is the right syntax to exclude files in Windows Exclusion list?

I want to exclude this:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Res*.log

same question for folders:
Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\FTDATA
Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL*\FTDATA

Hi Ingo,
I have the same situation - after hours of discussion with the Sophos staff I have to say it is not possible to use the official Windows variables.
You can only enter
c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Res*.log
f.e.
