Update Policies depeding on the site in AD

the basis for policy assignment is the SEC group. If you mirror or sync the AD structure an OU will be mapped to a corresponding SEC group and with sync it's not possible to sub-divide the SEC groups.

how do I manage my clients using differnet update locations without moving them manually within the SEC.

By installing the client directly from the share the machines will end up in the unassigned group. Am I able to specify the group within SEC from the client directly so it ends in the right group from the beginning without any manual action?

yes, both the GUI and the command line provide this option (and it can also be set when using the Deployment Packager or, since 1.2.1, can be passed to the resulting package). Please see Command line parameters used by Setup.exe (note; the group path/name is case sensitive!).
