Windows System Event 7030 - Interactive service warning

Hi

Our network comprises mostly Win7 in a Windows domain. We use Sophos Endpoint Security and Control. Policies are controlled via the Enterprise Console installed on a 2008 server and are pushed out to the clients. The network is small with 4 servers (2008, 2012 and 2012 R2) and 40 client machines (Win7 and 1 Vista).

I have seen several instances where Windows System Event 7030 has been logged on several machines. We have been having intermittent network issues where the network stops responding for anything between a few seconds to several minutes and the event is sometimes logged during that time.

The event details are:

"The Sophos Client Firewall Manager service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly."

When I check the machines, the Interactive Services Detection service (which must be Started to prevent this error being logged), is set to Manual startup. On some machines the service is started, and on others it is stopped.

Does anyone know what the correct state of the service should be? Should it remain at Manual, and if so should it always be started? Or should I change the startup type from Manual to Automatic?

These network outages are a real pain. Becuase they are random and occur anytime I have not been able to find a common denominator. I am keen, therefore, to check everything and make sure the systems are configured properly. As the firewall controls network traffic, I want to make sure it is running exactly as it should be and that all Windows OS components required to support it are properly configured so that I can rule it out.

Any thoughts and ideas, comments etc are very wlecome.

Thanks!

Mark
