Where did my 10.3.2 package go?

Anyone else missing the 10.3.2 package from their console?

  • Hello emiliob,

10.3.x has been available as Preview for the last few months. Right now it's going mainstream as 10.3.1.494 (succeeding 10.2, its latest incarnation 10.2.9.493, as Recommended). With this the first cycle of the new lifecycle policy is nearing completion with the introduction of 10.2.9.494 as Extended), the final step (Previous Extended) due next month. Preview (now 10.3.3.494) continues to be ahead of Recommended (10.3.1.494) - thus 10.3.2 (which has been the latest Preview) is not missing, it has just been superseded within the Preview subscription. Recommended might or might not catch up with Preview in the next months.

Too complicated or does this answer your question?

  • Interesting. According to the monthly Platinum Support email. 10.3.2 was released Sept 18th with no mention of a "preview" at all or maybe i am misreading it.

  • Furthermore, per my TSAM, there is a reg key that allows customers to choose fixed packages.  That is very important to anyone who cares about change control.

  • ok too complicated. 10.3.2 493 was the FIXED package we were on. Now it says it has been removed.

Still doesnt answer why such a drastic change was made when large customers that use change control may have been using the fixed packages instead of recommeded, previous or preview.

It all comes down to CHANGE CONTROL.

  • Hello emiliob,

can't comment on this Insider information, we can only afford the basic NOS metal support :smileywink:. I see both 10.2.9 and 10.3.2 as well as 8.0 18 and 9.0.3 for OS X - at least for the common folk the latter were only available as Preview (since July or so). Perhaps this was announced in a preceding issue.

Dunno if Sophos wants to discuss Platinum Support related questions in this public forum :smileytongue: - seriously, relating to your recent post, I'm not aware that the use of fixed subscriptions should be possible with SEC 5.2.x though there might be a hack - but if, I don't think that Sophos wants to release this information to the public.

Anyway - I've still one server with SEC 5.0 and it displays somewhat obscure version information:

    Recommended

    Preview

    Extended

Do Not Use - Fixed version 10.3.3 VDL4.94 is not supported - Please use the "Preview" subscription option

    10.3.1 VDL4.94

    10.2.9 Previous

    ...

Funny thing is, that the Details list this very 10.3.3 VDL4.94 under Preview (Recommended is 10.3.1 VDL4.94)

  • So this actually caused an issue for me yesterday, all of my Relay Servers were subscribed to a QA/Test Subscription that i was running 10.3.2 on. According to support they actually rolled back 10.3.2, when this happened it caused all of my realys to error out and stop downloading updates.

This will allow you to select specific packages, We have strict change controll and are not permitted to upgrade with out testing, so we rely on the specific version #'s heavily.

  • KajunSA nailed it with the last line.

    :44379
  • Here is the issue we have with recommended, preview, previous... Sophos updates these and we dont have a chance to test this. We have had horrible experiences in the past with the sophos web lsp and single sign on for some of our applications. The sophos_detoured.dll is a nightmare.

  • The Preview subscription is there primarily for test environments and for customers to see the changes that will be coming in future Recommended subscriptions. There will only ever be one version available in Preview which means that fixed versions are not appicable since the version in question is only available until the next version is published.

We are working on having two versions in Extended (an A and B stream) that overlap for a period of time (probably 3 months). This should then give you the opportunity to test and move to a new version at a time of your choosing within the overlap period.

We removed the reg key from the post above as we are trying to discourage non-platinum support customers from using fixed versions as we have had quite a few instances of customers being confused about their usage and endign up on very old versions that are no longer supported.

Therefore 10.3.2 was removed when 10.3.3 was published to Preview, just as 10.3.1 was and 10.3.3 wil be in the future....

  • So I downgraded to fixed package 10.3.1 494. Should I expect a similar issue with the package disappearing?
