Dropbox website blocked - Mal/HTMLGen-A threat?f

I encountered this problem this evening using both Chrome and Internet Explorer.  I do need to use Dropbox...  is this an actual threat or just a panic attack from the Sophos program?

Thanks

  • Hello jamiea,

Mal/HTMLGen-A is, as the name implies, a generic detection. It does not indicate that the site is a plague-spot, "just" that "something" has been found "somewhere".  Furthermore, it is not the result of a scan by the local Sophos installation but returned in response to a Web Protection lookup, usually bound to the IP your browser attempts to access. This means that it does not necessarily apply to the site you are about to access (in case of several - unrelated - sites hosted on the same server) or all servers behind a certain URL/service (in case of a distribution network, aka as cloud).

If the block persists (it might have already been cleaned and reassessed) you could contact Support - please include not only the URL but also the IP(s) the host resolves to.

    Christian
