"Sophos protection disabled"

In one of my virtual machines (Win7-sp1 pro) with Sophos 10.2, all Sophos services except "Sophos Web Intelligence Update" are continuously running. In the sophos main window, nothing is greyed out. Updates are routinely looked up and successfully installed .

Nevertheless, after the first check for updates, the tooltip of the tray icon switches to "Sophos protection disabled".

My other virtual or physical machines don't do so. If I restart SAVservice or SAVadminservice, nothing changes. If I forcefully stop the process of ALmon.exe and restart it, the tooltip changes to "Sophos protection" - but only until the next check for updates or a Windows reboot.

  • Hi,

I’’’’m seeing the same behavior in my second domain controller (virtual 2008 R2 server) each time I log in: the tooltip is there but all Sophos components are active. The other virtual servers and workstations are OK.

My only guess is that the tooltip appears when Sophos service could have been restarted during the update process and doesn’’’’t clear when the service is up.

    Cheers.

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. I take it as a vote for neglecting the seemingly faulty tooltip behavior. Maybe Sophos developers will renounce on the tooltip at all.
