Enterprise Console 5.2.2 Migration - New server not showing in new Console as an Update manager

Hi,

I've been following the instructions here: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/medialibrary/PDFs/documentation/sec_52_mgeng.pdf to migrate our Sophos Enterprise Console from one server to another, all was well until I got to step 12:

"You must configure endpoint computers to be updated by the new Sophos Update Manager (SUM) and configure it to download updates from Sophos. 1. On the new server open Enterprise Console. 2. On the View menu, click Update managers. The Update Managers list is displayed with the new SUM."

When I open the Enterprise Console on the new server for the first time. The new server is not listed, only the old one and the other SUMs we have.

What am I missing or what can I try to make it appear?

Thanks

  • Hello 1heds,

The new server is not listed

is Sophos Update Manager listed in Programs and Features?

Normally the new server should be in the Update Managers view (either in addition to or in place of the old one - this is done when it's accessing the database for the first time). You did first install only the database component, import the database, and then proceed with the management server and console install - didn't you?

It is known that on very rare occasions this change fails but the result is usually that you are unable to open the console at all, or that the configuration wizard commences but is then inaccessible. What you describe looks as if the database has been imported after the management server had been installed. Thinking about it - the SUM on the new server should tell EM that it's there so it should eventually appear. Is the server listed in the Endpoints view and connected?

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for the swift reply. After a couple of restarts and some tinkering overnight the new server appeared and updating! Now to get the other SUMs to update...

    Thanks very much
