Undetected email virus

Hi,

we have had an issue with a virus contained in an attachment which unfortunately someone opened. IThe attachement was an invoice although in fact it was an .EXE.

Thisa has had the effect of sending an email to all users in the address book and more besides with a zip file attached, presumably containbing the virus.

Sophos did not pick it up so therefore I can't tell what it is. We have been made aware of the issue by recipeints of the spam email complaining that we havd sent an email with avorus attched. Clearly their AV software has trapped it.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how we can clean this up?

Thanks

Andy

  • Hello Andy,

what do you want to clean up? If the mail is still present in this someone's mailbox submit a sample to Sophos. If it's still not yet known it takes a few hours until you'll get a detection for it. Likely the detached malware is somewhere (depending on the mail client) on the user's computer.
