Sophos Internet Updates vs. Internal Management Server (w/Message Relay?)

Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to update my "off network" clients. Right now they're set to point to my management server on my internal network as the primary update location, and to the Sophos Internet servers as a secondary location.   My question is are they only getting definition updates from the Sophos Internet servers, or does the Sophos internet servers perform the client updates, etc as well?

I'm in the process of putting a Message Relay Server out in the DMZ so these clients can report back to my management console. However - would it make more sense to just put my management server in the DMZ instead with a web update location?

  • Hello tchinagi,

the relay can also host a WebCID. You'd install a child SUM and publish the CID(s) with IIS or another web server.

Updates from Sophos do not include RMS (which is not a problem), the software ("SAV version") is updated normally but only upgraded (major changes) at "the last moment" (i.e. when the product is about to be retired).

Sorry, no links to the articles (hard to do on a "smart" device :smileywink:) - I'm sure you'll find them
