Enterprise Console 5.2 - Web Control - How to add multiple IPs to block list?

Is there a way to add multiple IPs to the block list in web control?  Is there a way to import a list instead of adding one IP at a time?  TIA

  • Hello Humongous,

AFAIK unfortunately not. Do you have many and what's the reason for blocking a significant number of these?

  • Thanks for the reply.  We have a lot to add and want to add them for our traveling employees.

  • Hello Humongous,

maybe it's a misunderstanding (and absence of imagination) on my part. Or maybe it's a misconception of Web Control.

I wonder what IPs these could be and what's served by them (which doesn't fall into one of the available categories) so that you want to block them (and apparently for your traveling employees), why IPs and not names and finally, how you compiled the list you want to import (maybe it's from the gateway which protects your LAN)?

Anyway I understand you are using Inappropriate Website Control, not Full Web Control. I assume the laptops are locked down so that Web Control can't be turned off? It's a client-side addition and although it lets you configure exceptions they are just that. In principle you should select an appropriate action for each of the pre-configured categories and while you can add quite a number of exceptions they are not meant to be the basic means of configuration (and note that Block takes precedence over Allow and thus might not be very convenient in certain circumstances).

If you need exceptions you should use Domain names whenever possible (for several reasons). While you can't use wildcards in IPs the address/netmask notation comes in handy (although for anything more than blocking whole networks it requires some knowledge).

If all this doesn't help I'd consider contacting Support (not Sales or Pre-Sales, they'll likely suggest a Web Appliance :smileywink: :smileylol:). Perhaps one can send them a list of IPs and get the classification in return - this would show which IPs don't fall into the available categories (or which would be covered by Full Web Control).
