Installation of SAVXP failed because a registry entry was malformed

I am trying to install Sophos from a server.

Autoupdate and RMSNT install but when it gets to SAVXP I get the following:

Message: Installation of product SAVXP failed because a registry entry was malformed
Module: ALUpdate
Process ID: 2624
Thread ID: 5824

I have done some googling and it looks like the fix is to uninstall and reinstall but that won't work if it isn't installed.

This is ANOTHER victim of the updater B issue where sophos has been uninstalled and now won't reinstall.

I am having the same exact issue/error code with a user here.

We completely removed Sophos and reinstalled it, however this has not resolved the issue.

Hi,
I would suggest letting it install with ProcessMonitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx) running. When it fails, stop ProcessMonitor. Then cross reference the msi log "C:\windos\temp\Sophos Anti-Virus Major Install Log_[].txt" error (search for: return value 3) with the keys being accessed.
