.pxm

The short of it is I discovered a Document while going from folder to folder on my external drive looking for extensions that didn't belong (it contains jpg, DNG and psd files, i.e., pictures). I came upon one that a hacker placed in there for sure (my iMac was hacked through my GMail account in August). It carries the same name as the previous jpg, it's a Document, it's 36.8 MB with the extension of .pxm. The Sophos scan does not identify it as either an Issue or a Treath. I'll delete it for sure, but does anyone have an inkling as to what it is? It's tool large to attach, evidently.

  • Hello Kits101,

the .pxm extension could indicate a graphics file - Pixelmator uses it for its native file format.

  • Thanks.

When I clicked on it, the file that contained the .pxm was a huge 'Document'  and placed under the jpg with the same name, as if someone had placed a malware and renamed it for double measure to hopefuly cover his tracks. I saved the suspect  .pxm 'file' on a USB key for posterity. After I saved it on the key, removed it to Trash and Secure deleted it, I looked for it again and it had copied itself in Applications (Mac). Sheesh! Thanks, though. That one's gone, but what's left? Know any good hackers with white hats?  :)
