Server in DMZ cannot update

Hello!

I have a server which cannot update, its trying to access the 'Sophos' entry in Endpoint's update configuration but its not getting anywhere. The error message is:

Time: 05/07/2012 08:20:32
Message: ERROR: Could not find a source for updated packages
Module: ALUpdate
Process ID: 816
Thread ID: 1316

The address in the update entry is 'Sophos' - is this correct? If so then what are the actual IPs/Hostnames Ports/Protocols being used to access 'Sophos' for an update? I'll need these to correctly configure the firewall infront of it!

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

  • Hello printermad,

first of all you should not use Sophos as location for regular endpoint updates. Not only does the license require that you use your infrastructure for updating (except for "occasionally off-site" endpoints). Updating from Sophos does not include the RMS component, thus AutoUpdate will report that updating failed, furthermore you can't control when the endpoint will upgrade to a newer version.

Apart from this - the protocol is HTTP on port 80, the name used is (normally) es-web-2.sophos.com and resolves to addresses on the Akamai distribution network.

  • Christian,

Thank you for your help so far.

From what I understand the updates for endpoint are done over SMB? is there anyway of doing the updates on my own infrastructure over a different protocol like HTTP/HTTPS?
